A Mother's Child

The other night when it was time to get ready for bed all four of us walked back to the girls room. Josh lifted Lillian up to change her diaper and put her jammies on her. Claire took off running down the back toward the living room. After a minute or two I walked out to the living room to get Claire and found her all cozy on the couch. She climbed in the corner, covered herself with a blanket, grabbed the remote, my book and had the computer all set up on her lap. Yup, she is her mother's child.

Lunch and Dress Up

Saturday morning after Lillian and Claire finished breakfast we loaded them up and headed for Grandma and Grandpa's. Both girls seemed to have fun running around the house and seeing what they could get into. They discovered the cabinet that houses all of the plastic ware and in no time brought arm fulls back into the living room.

We went over with plans of lunch but also to finally pack up my wedding dress (we have been married for 5 1/2 years) that has been hanging in their closet for way too long. I decided that before we seal it all up that I needed to try it on again. Luckily for me, there is no zipper to my dress so I didn't have to struggle with that. Since I have not really even looked at my dress since our wedding I didn't realize how disgustingly dirty it was. It appears a drink was spilled all the way down the right side and the bottom hem is covered in filth from it sweeping along the dance floor all night. Ick! It did feel so nice putting something special on; no jeans or pajama pants.

It laid pretty flat since I didn't have a crinoline on under, but I still think it looks pretty good. The girls watched me walk down the stairs in the dress and seemed interested, but when Josh tried to had Lillian to me her bottom lip started to quiver and she was ready to cry. They would not come near me.

Claire and Lillian both asked what my veil was when they saw me hold it as we were packing the car back up, so I told them and tried it on them. Lillian wore it for a few minutes, but wasn't too thrilled with it. Claire, on the other hand, wore it with so much pride and loved it. She wanted to wear it again the following day and walked around with a big smile on her face.
These will have to be shown at her wedding WAY down the road.

Buddled Up

Last week while the girls were getting ready for bed they decided they needed to wear their hats and mittens. They were so excited to be all bundled up with both their monkey hats and their special hats Grandma Sandy made them for Christmas. They happily put on their mittens and they loved their matching scarves Grandma Sandy made.
Once all bundled they ran into the living room straight for the gate that blocks them from entering the kitchen. They both shake the gate and point to the patio door. Claire said, "play snow, play snow!"
I felt so bad. They could see the snow falling all evening and since they had so much fun playing in our last snow fall they wanted to do the same. I had to tell them no, since they were in their jammies and it was bed time. The weather has been too cold here to be able to take them out since then. It is supposed to warm up this week, so hopefully before everything melts we will make it out there.

This was the following morning looking out our patio door. I believe there was about 7 or 8 inches of snow that feel the night before.
The girls are perched on the couch watching the neighbors shovel their driveway.

Big Girl

The other night after dinner I was cleaning the girls up and Josh left the kitchen to go use the restroom (sorry Josh, but it helps the story make sense). We have been talking to the girls a lot lately about the potty and trying to get them more interested in talking about it and using the words necessary for potty training. Claire and I had a little conversation and it went a little like this.
Claire: Where daddy go?
Me: Daddy went to go potty. Do you need to go potty?
Claire: No.
Me: Would you like to go sit on the potty chair?
Claire: No.
Me: Big girls use the potty chair. Claire, are you a big girl?
Claire: No.
Me: Are you a baby?
Claire: No.
Me: Well then, what are you?
Claire: Lily.

When you ask Lillian what her name is, she says Lily. We never call her Lily, it is always Lillian, but that ending part of her name must still be took tough for her to say. When you ask Claire what her name is, she will also say Lily. We can't figure out why she does this, because when you call her name she turns and looks and she always responds to Claire, but always calls herself Lily.

Es Dat?

Claire has become very curious lately and asks so many questions, especially while sitting at the dinner table. She will notice something sitting on the counter, the table or outside the window and ask, "es dat?" She wants to know what everything is called and then repeats us. With this her vocabulary is making leaps and bounds.

Snapshots

Both girls have been cough free for about two weeks now, but it's back. Their coughing wakes them up at night, keeps them from having decent naps and it is miserable. Hopefully this time it is short lived since there isn't too much we can really do for it and Josh and I would really like to sleep through the night again, the 1am and 5 am wake up calls are getting old.

Last night we went to Best Buy to purchase a new battery charger for my camera and I am so excited about this. Last week I took a few pictures, but it was with my older camera before that battery died as well.

A friend ordered some hair clips and a tutu for her little girl and while I was trying to take photos of it Lillian and Claire were wanting to check it out. Last time I made a tutu for someone and I showed it to the girls, they flipped out and ran away. I was excited they were interested in it and Lillian was eager to try it on. It is small on her since it is made for an infant, but she loved it. Now I have to make some for them to play dress up with.

They have been all about sharing lately while in their high chairs. They share food to throw across the room, they share their veggies they don't want to eat, and sometimes they even share the food they do want to eat.
I think Claire is trying to take over my Packer blanket. When I leave a the room she will climb on the couch and cuddle with my blanket, she will drag it around the living room to make a little pad to snuggle on and the other day she pulled it on the chair with her and her Pillow Pet to snuggle up.
It's game day! Lillian and Claire were in bed shortly after the game started, but they had plenty of time to give a few high fives and cheers for touchdowns.

Popcorn

The other night after dinner we had a fun family outing to Target. We had a few essentials that had to be picked up so off we went. Lillian and Claire always sit so nicely in the double carts that handle like a semi when pushing them. They were saying hi to almost everyone we walked past and would get excited when they saw something that caught their eye.
After checking out we stopped past the Target Cafe to get a bag of popcorn since we had a 50 cents off coupon; can't pass that up. As soon as Claire saw me walking with the bag she started saying, "pancon, pancon" and wouldn't let up until she got some. However, once she shoved the kernels into her mouth she immediately started asking for more. Did asked as we walked through the parking lot, as we got in the car and the whole way home.
Once we arrived home, we had the girls sit at their table and chairs in the playroom and they each had a little snack of popcorn. They both gobbled it up and asked for more. Lillian wasn't as interested as Claire so she stopped eating her second serving and started to play. Claire quickly moved to Lillian's chair and finished it off.
Today we went to the mall and on our way Claire was sitting in the back and this is what she said. "Mommy, pancon?"
Josh and I have come to the conclusion that Lillian as more of a sweet tooth since she is always asking for candy, while Claire likes the salty more and asks for popcorn and chips. They really do not get these items very often, but they sure know what it is when they see it.

Over the holidays we some how managed to loose the cord for our camera that charges the battery. Since then we have taken hardly any pictures since the battery is completely dead and our old camera doesn't take very good pictures and doesn't hold a charge for long. Hopefully soon we will either find the cord or be able to buy a new charger.

Snow Fight

In the wee hours of the morning the snow started falling today and is still falling late into the night. I am not sure what the official totals are currently, but I would guess we have between 3 -4 inches of snow, possibly more.
This morning after breakfast and play time, I bundled Lillian and Claire up and we headed outside to play in the falling snow. I was nervous of what they would think since the last time they were in snow it was not such a positive experience.
Well, as soon as they walked out the back door they took of and were in love. They both scooped the snow up and threw it in the air. They threw it at me, Leia and each other. The ran around, as well as any toddler can in snow boots and bundled up. They laughed, they smiled, they had a blast.
There were times they were running or even just walking and would fall face first into the snow, but they stood up, shook it off and laughed as they continued on their way.

The video looks grainy, but actually it is the snow falling.

Escape Artists

Both my girls have become escape artists, but in very different ways.
Claire has been waking up most mornings with her jammies unzipped. The other night they were in two piece jammies; pants and a button up top. We put the girls to bed and they were nice and quiet. About an hour after we put them in bed Claire started crying and I went to go see why she was so upset. Well, my little Claire some how managed to take her jammie shirt off and was sitting there half naked holding her shirt out. Last night when Josh went to check the girls before we went to bed and found Claire sleeping with her jammies completely unzipped. This morning I went in to get them when they woke up and Claire was wearing nothing but her diaper. I am crossing my fingers that she doesn't start getting completely naked at night.

Now for my Lillian. Oh my sweet Lillian. She has never made too much of an effort to climb out of her crib like Claire so we never lowered her crib to the lowest level; roughly three inches lower. A few times lately I have seen her throw her leg over part of the crib, but not completely over, again we didn't worry. Tonight after we put the girls to bed, Josh and I came out to the living room and started watching TV. Roughly 30 minutes later we hear a thump. Josh runs back to the girls room and finds Lillian laying on the floor on her back and crying. Lillian is fine, she was happy after cuddles. We flipped on the light and lowered her crib right away. Lillian's bunny was also on the floor and from what I gather, she dropped her bunny out of the crib and was wanting it back, thus the escape. Hopefully my reminder to Lillian that she is not graceful, she falls over her feet and trips on the flat ground, will sink in.

I am really hoping that neither of the girls make any further attempts to get out of their cribs, because I am far from ready to put them in toddler beds.

What Comes with Two

Some of the things that have come along with the girls turning two are exciting and some I could do without. It seems like in just the past two weeks they have been so much more helpful. They pick up their own toys when asked (not all the time, but most), they follow directions more often and will acknowledge questions with responses. They have continued to improve with using spoons and forks more then they use their hands. Their language continues to improve every single day and it is so much fun hearing them say new words and phrases.

Lately, they have also become more much opinionated, which isn't always a bad thing, but when fits get thrown because they have to leave a room, go to bed, or clean up toys, it isn't a good thing either. I have also been hearing the word "mine" on a more regular basis and it is very difficult to convince them otherwise sometimes.

One more thing that I love; they seem even closer now then they have before. They have been playing together a lot more often, cuddling and laughing. All of the other things I mentioned above anyone can experience with a two year old, not many can experience the wonders of a built in best friend.

Two Bugs Snuggling on a Rug

Ms. Potato Head

The girls each received their own Mr. Pototo Head as a late Christmas gift from some friends of ours and the girls have been playing with them nonstop since they came out of the boxes. I noticed Claire the other day trying to wear the shoes. They hold the different facial features up to their own faces where they blong and look so proud with the big teeth or bright red tongue. I think their favorite item though are the glasses. They both walk around wearing the glasses and insist that the potato always has the glasses on.

Our Week

Last week there was a lot of cuddles, outfit/pj changes, baths, diaper changes and sick babies. There was not a lot of smiles, giggles, climbing, playing, or eating. We survived a week that felt like it was going on forever and I am so happy to have my happy and crazy girls back.

Finally feeling better.

Feeling Better

Lillian and Claire are back to their same goofy selves now and it is great seeing them smile and laugh again. However, since they were feeling better yesterday, of course I was up all night last night feeling miserable. It started with my body aching and my stomach hurting. Luckily, the stomach got better, but my body still feels so sluggish and achy. Josh was wonderful and let me lounge around in bed all morning and hang out on the couch this afternoon. I really hope that after a good nights sleep I will feel like myself again.

Tomorrow I will work on taking pictures off the camera and upload some.
