Posted too Soon

It wasn't that long ago that I post about how excited I was for Claire and being finished with Pull Ups. She was rocking the undies and keeping them dry all day and all night long. Well, last week Wednesday, Claire woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Josh ran in to see what was wrong and she had an accident, it was cold, so it had been there for awhile. He changed her and put her in a Pull Up instead of dry undies. Thursday the same thing happened. I am pretty sure she has having these accidents because they were taking in too many fluids too late into the evening. Since I was out of town last weekend, I reminded Josh to cut back her fluid intake earlier in the evening and she would probably be fine. Long story short, she has been back in Pull Ups at night for the past week. I hate this step back. She had been doing amazing during the day for so long and over the weekend and the first half of the week, that all changed as well. I don't know what was going on since I was not around, but she seems to be back on track again. Maybe she was thrown off her routine since I was gone and that happens next to never. Maybe she was busy playing so hard and forgot to go or didn't want to stop playing to run to the bathroom.  I don't know. I have been making a big deal again when she tells me she has to go or keeping her Pull Up dry at night. I remind her she cannot start preschool if she is having accidents.
Like I said, I don't know what was going on with my little lady, but she seems like she is back to herself again.
Lillian is still a rock star during the day and night are hit or miss.

For Anne

A dear friend of mine is pregnant with her first baby. As soon as she told me she was pregnant I started trying to find the right pattern quilt for her little one. Colors were difficult because they are not finding out the sex of their baby until the grand arrival, so I wanted to do something fun. I think pale green and yellows can be very overdone when going gender neutral, so I went bright. I cannot take all the credit for this quilt, I saw this version on Pinterest and ran with it. It is similar, but different and I love it. Not going to lie, I had many issues as usual along the way, but overall if you don't look too closely, you will never know what they are and I am not telling.

The front
Close up of front and a peek at the back
 How I pieced the backing
 A little of everything. Love.

I wanted to get this quilt finished before this past weekend when I headed north to Des Moines and a few of my college girl friends headed south to Des Moines for a girls weekend. I was in such a need for a weekend away from life, kids, dishes, cleaning, you name it. I have not had the chance to see these three girls in over a year and I missed them. We had a fabulous weekend together and I did something I have wanted to do for years, but never thought I would be brave enough to actually do. I got my tattoo. For several years now I have wanted a tattoo of two little birds, for Lillian and Claire, on the top of my foot. I never thought I would be brave enough to take this forever plunge, but with a little help, I did. The tattoo artist hand drew the birds on my foot and there is no real reason behind the color choices, other than I wanted something bright and colorful.
I promise soon I will post about the girls again. I will make it tomorrows goal, so expect something hopefully by the end of the weekend. ;-)

You Make Me Smile

Any terrible, stressful, sad, long, sick, horrible, whatever might happen day, can quickly turn around  after a smile and laugh from my two girls. On thing that I love most about them, but also drives me batty, is their ability to make me laugh when I am upset with them. Seriously, they know when to turn on the charm, hand out the hugs and do the cutest things. Seeing their faces is the best part of each day.

Spring Cleaning

With last week being spring break, not only was I able to hear my own thoughts, I was actually able to get things done around the house. Since the weather was beautiful, the windows were open all week and we loved the fresh air. I took the opportunity to catch up on laundry (not that you can tell anymore), scrub the kitchen cabinets and floor, scrub the bathrooms, get everything vacuumed, cleaned the playroom, dusted, and had two little helpers that couldn't wait to help clean windows. I am sure there is plenty more on my list of cleaning I left off, but you get the idea. My house was no longer neglected in a way I don't have the time or energy to do after busy days with four kiddos in the house. The girls were very disappointed when there were no more windows to clean, but I assured them, it wouldn't be long and they would need to be cleaned again.

Latest Project

Here are a few pictures of my latest finished quilting project. I am in love with how this one turned out. I made this quilt for my newest little niece on the way, hopefully she gives mama a break these last few months. The first picture is before I washed the quilt and the second was after washing in all it's puckered and cuddly glory. This quilt was delivered last weekend and I am already more than halfway through my next quilt I hope to have finished for my girls trip next weekend.

(please excuse me nasty toddler and dog stained carpet)

Keeping Dry

For about a week now, Claire has been waking up every morning with a dry Pull Up. Actually, it may be longer than that, but all the days run together for me and I can't keep track. There have been mornings we have gone it to get them after we hear them start chatting and Claire is sitting on the potty chair in their room. Lillian has had a few mornings where she has kept dry, but I think she is only using the Pull Up because she know she can.
The past two nights Claire has begged Josh and I to wear her undies to bed at night. We decided to let her sleep in her undies and the worst case scenario is we have to change sheets. Since the girls are no longer napping during the day, they tend to fall asleep almost as soon as their heads hit the pillow, so they were out shortly after 8pm. This morning I heard them waking up around 8am and sure enough, my big girl Claire was completely dry. I am so proud of my big girl!
We just opened a pack of Pull Ups earlier in the week, but I think once we run out, I am going to see how Lillian does without one at night. She used them as a crutch during naps and once we started keeping them in their undies during naps, she stopped the "accidents." Like I said, I think the same will happen with night time, if not, we will go back to Pull Ups until she is ready.

Busy, but not.

I wish I could say I haven't posted anything in a week because we have been so busy and I just haven't had the time. However, that is not at all the case. I wish there were exciting things going on I could post daily about or had the energy to write about.
This week is spring break in town, which means, I don't have my extra little misters in the house. Our days are much quieter and move at a slower pace, but we miss those cute faces. The girls and I have been trying to keep busy with something fun to do each day and I think they are enjoying themselves, I know I am.
Let me start by talking about our weekend. First, Friday I screwed up royally. We have all be really excited for probably two weeks now to attend a birthday barbecue for my friend Jennie and her husband at their house. The girls were excited to play with their friend Sammie. Well, like I said, I screwed up. Some how I had it in my head that the 10th was Friday, when in fact it was Saturday. We drove 45 minutes to Jennie's house and yup, had the wrong day. We were then craving a little bbq, so we plugged in a few restaurant options in the GPS and it lead us to an industrial park. Fail. We tried a few other restaurants and once again, fail. We ended up at the nasty old Denny's with a very friendly staff and customers who all stopped to chat with us and the girls.
Saturday morning we loaded up and headed east to the St. Louis area for the night. Our niece, Kendall, turned 15 last week, so we went to celebrate her birthday and visit family. We had a great trip and the girls had a blast playing with their cousins. We kept busy both Saturday and Sunday, but of course I only took a few photos and regretted it instantly.

On Monday, I took the girls with me to the gym while I worked out and then we ran some errands. I had to make an exchange at Old Navy and we cannot go into that place without the girls petting the plastic puppy that greets us at the front entry. We also had to give it hugs on our way out. The stop they were most excited for was running into Target to buy them a wagon. They were so excited about this purchase and couldn't wait to get it home, put it together and go for a ride.
On Tuesday, we spend the morning on a play date with my friend Sheri and her kiddos at their house. Before heading home we had to make a pit stop at Hobby Lobby to buy fabric for a quilt I am working on and I also spotted a great knit print clearanced down to $3 a yard. That afternoon I added the fabric to t-shirts the girls had in their closet, but are too short in the torso to make adorable dresses for them. When they tried them on yesterday evening, they did not want to take them off, so I had to promise they could wear them to the zoo today (Wednesday).
On Wednesday, we met up with a few others and spend the morning and first part of the afternoon at the zoo. We have had beautiful weather here this week and today was no different. The girls were loving the wagon rides through the zoo, but also loved the freedom of being able to walk. We are all excited for many more zoo trips in the near future.

I love this picture of 4 of the 5 little ones in our caravan checking out the elephants this morning.

Picnic in the Livingroom

Last Saturday the sun was shining bright and it looked beautiful outside. I spoke way too soon and told the girls that it would be a great day to play outside after breakfast. Turns out, the sun was bright and it looked beautiful outside, but it was only in the mid-30's. I told the girls they had to wait for it to warm up a little more before they could go out and play. When I gave them the go ahead, they ran so quickly to get their jackets on and headed for the door.
While outside they came up with the idea of a picnic. They wanted their picnic table, but it is still packed away in the garage until it warms up for good. So then they mentioned they could just bring their chairs outside for a picnic. I had to break the news that it was way too cold outside for a picnic, but we could have a picnic lunch in the livingroom. They loved this idea. Together they picked out what they wanted for lunch and grabbed items out of the pantry and fridge. Lunch ended up lasting an hour, but they loved it.

This has nothing to do with the girls, but I just want to brag about a couple of my projects from this past month.
I had a two different friends ask me to make their kiddos special birthday outfits. While I have never made shirts for more than the girls or a few gifts, I was excited about this opportunity. The first was for a friends set of twins and their cousins combined Mickey and Minnie themed birthday party coming up. It all started with a simple shirt request. Then it became shirts and matching skirts, but of course no outfit is complete without a matching hair bow. These were so fun to make. Skirts are also a semi new thing to me. I made Lillian and Claire's Christmas skirts, but that was about it. I am very happy with how these outfits turned out.

The next set of outfits is for another friend, her twins are about to turn one. The monkey face was new as well, but I think he turned out adorable. I have made many, many tutus in the past several years, but a matching tulle headband was another first. Again, love them and I am so excited to see these outfits on the little cuties.

Our neighbor has a beautiful yard. He has a landscaping team that comes a few times each spring to trim the trees, clean up the garden beds, mulch, you name it. They also visit several times each summer and again in the fall. The first spring visit is the girls favorite. Last year they sat in the front window and watch the workers using the chopper while playing with their animals. They say and watched for close to an hour.

The landscaping crew came back for their first spring visit this past week. The arrived while we were eating breakfast and it caused our breakfast to take twice as long as it normally would. Lillian and Claire hopped back and forth between all the windows to see what was going on. They were trying to talk to the men through the window, but that didn't work so well for them.

The girls love to help. They love when we get home from the grocery store and help put everything away. They love when we are working in the yard and help pick up leaves. They love when we are cleaning the house or doing laundry and help with that as well. Of course, I have found frozen veggies in the pantry, cans on top of bread or sandwich bags in the fridge. I cleaning takes twice as long and leaves end up all over the yard instead of the lawn bag. It is sometimes difficult to remember to take it slow and not become frustrated with these things. Allowing them to help us is teaching them life lessons and gives them so much pride.
