Hopscotch

We have been having some really nice weather off and on here. We will have a day in the low 60's and then a few in the upper 40's and repeat. We have been enjoying those nice days with extra time outside. Last week we took out some sidewalk chalk because the girls were insistent they needed a hopscotch to jump in. It has been many, many years since the last time I have drawn a hopscotch and I had a brain fart when I started drawing and couldn't remember the correct layout. Luckily, the girls didn't mind and were happy with anything. They jumped for a few minutes and were done. It did take a lot of convincing to get them back inside though, they were loving the chalk and the beautiful weather.

Riding in Style

Is there any better way to ride to be than on Daddy's back?

Every Sunday the girls and I go to church and when Josh has off work, he comes with us. They are always so excited to play with their friends and work on projects. At pick up time, ever since they started talking, I always ask them what they talked about that day. I ask them who they played with and various other questions. This has been part of our routine for close to a year now and they never gave me much of a response. This past month things have changed a lot. When I ask them who they played with, they each tell me a few names, almost every week I hear the names Anna, Sam and Alex. They also tell me who was being naughty and not sitting nicely and who needed to go potty. I ask them if they sang any songs, listened to a story, played any games and what they had for snack. These past few weeks I have loved asking them these questions. When I asked them what they talked about they always tell me Jesus. Today after church they told me that they learned about how Jesus helps us and they even colored pictures to go with their lesson.
Each week they share a little bit more with me and each week my heart is filled with joy listening to them and their excitement for Jesus.

A New Development

Something big has happened in our house during this past week and I am extremely excited about it, the girls are not longer wearing Pull Ups at nap time!
About 4 months ago Claire stopped wearing a Pull Up during naps since she was consistently dry and was even dry most nights. However, shortly before Thanksgiving, she regressed and started having accidents and stopped caring about keeping her undies dry, both during the day and at naps. Not wanting to fight her on this, because maybe she really just was not ready for it, we put her back in a Pull Up during nap time and everyone was much more relaxed.
Last week we were running low on our Pull Up supply, so I suggested to Josh we try keeping them in their undies during nap and see what happens. We put a potty chair in their room, just in case they needed to go they wouldn't be yelling for us to come get them, and they did great. Of course, since this was the first day, they didn't sleep and they got out of bed and sat on their potty chair multiple times just because they could. However, they ended their nap/quiet time completely dry. The next day we did the same and they both feel asleep, slept for over two hours and woke up dry. I am so proud of them. We have had a day or two when Claire has ended nap time with a small accident, but over all they have both done amazing.
For close to a month now I have been telling Josh I think they would be able to handle naps without their Pull Ups on, that I think they are using them because they know they can, and it turns out this was true. I am crossing fingers it won't be long and we can get rid of the night time Pull Ups and be free of them in our home.

Finally, Snow.

We finally had our first real snow fall this winter. February is almost half over and it is about time winter has arrived. Lillian and Claire have been waiting patiently for the chance to build their first snow many and make snow angels. Their faces lit up with excitement this morning when I opened their blinds and they saw the snow. They wanted to skip breakfast and head straight outside. Let's just say, they were not happy I made them wait until after they had some food in their bellies.
Once we bundled up and headed out, they were all smiles and giggles. They chased each other, myself and Leia with snow balls. We had a blast.

We only had enough snow and patience to build a itty bitty snowman and he sure was a cute one.

After the body was put together, the girls insisted I run inside to get a carrot for his nose. While poking in the fridge, I also grabbed two blueberries for the eyes. This was not enough for the girls, they wanted me to get more for the mouth and track down sticks for his arms. I said no.

Claire also had the chance to make her snow angel. Actually, she made several. I also laid down in the snow and made an angel myself.
It took a lot of convincing, but I was finally able to drag the girls back inside. This was not without tears that their snowman was going to melt. They asked about him up until bed time and needed the reassurance that he was still out there. At dinner, they asked to bring him inside to keep him safe. I let them know, that probably would not be the best idea, he would melt and he would be much safer outside in the cold.

Melts My Heart

Tonight Josh and I went our for dinner to celebrate 10 years since we started dating. When we arrived back  home, Lillian ran up to me and said, "Mommy, I'm so happy to see you. I so glad you are home."
Melts my heart.

Something Special

It has now been a week and a half since we transitioned the girls to their big girl beds. I would say that overall it has gone really well. The only times they usually get out of bed is to get a book or climb in their sisters bed and this is only during nap time. When bed time hits, they stay in their bed and haven't shown any desire to get out. I am very glad we decided to wait as long as we did, because I know it would not have went this well if we did it when they turned two, two and a half or any other time but now.
When we started the transition, I made up a sticker chart for them and if they filled all of the blank spaces they would be able to go to Target and pick out whatever toy or special item they wanted. I think I have posted before how they were able to pick out their items, but never actually were able to use them since their behavior quickly turned around and not for the better.
Last week Friday the girls woke up hearing the school bus pick up the little girl across the street. I went in their room to get them and Lillian was in tears telling me she needed to go Target to buy a backpack so she could go to school on the bus too. Lately, they have been all about wanting backpacks for some crazy reason. Claire actually picked out a toddler sized princess backpack as her special item and Lillian did at first, but changed her mind. I told her if both of them took a good nap that afternoon, then we would go back to Target and find her a backpack. Well, what do you know. They both feel asleep almost as soon as I put them down for a nap and woke up asking for backpacks. We exchanged the toy Lillian no longer cared about and never had the chance to play with and let her pick out a backpack. They are in love.

Claire has already mastered putting her backpack on by herself, although, sometimes it goes on upside down. They collect all of their special treasures and carry them around the house as they "walk to school." We still have the constant begging of wanting to go to school, but at least we are one step closer and they have their backpacks. Goofy girls.

Hair Length

Just a couple of quick pictures to show the length of their hair now after it has been cut. I wasn't thinking and I didn't take any before pictures of the back to get a decent shot, but I would guess there is 3-4 inches off the length.
