Getting Dirty

Since I just planted all of the seedlings into the garden, I supposed I need go post the photos of the girls helping me plan the seeds many weeks ago.
For months Lillian and Claire have been brainstorming over what type of veggies they wanted to plant in the garden this summer. Of course, they don't eat most of them unless I have everything chopped up in dinner and they don't realized what they are eating. The three of us went to the store and bought a bunch of seeds, soil and trays to start our plants in. We bought everything, but then had about a weeks worth or rain, so the planting had to wait.
I took the girls outside and they helped fill the trays with soil. After those were set, I gave each of them a pencil to poke little holes into the soil to plant the seeds. They thought the first few holes were fun, but then I ended up having to do the rest.
Then comes the fun part of putting the seeds into the soil. I had to keep a very watchful eye on Lillian. She was trying to rush through the planting and was mixing the different seeds up. Claire, on the other hand, was very patient and took her time dropping one little seed in at a time.
Finally they were able to water everything before running off to plan.

I planted all of our little seedlings in the garden this afternoon. I am hoping they continue to grow and produce some delicious produce for us this summer. This summer we have cucumbers, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, green beans (a first for us), cherry tomatoes and beefsteak tomatoes.

Love Them!

Things have been a little busy over here and again, blogging has taken a back seat. The weather has been crazy and as a result has caused some (hopefully) slight leaking on our roof which is finally be fixed this weekend. We took a trip to the St. Louis area to visit two of Josh's sisters and visit with four of our nieces. Adding to the craziness, we have reached the final three weeks of school and that means conferences for me on top of regular school prep and hours. Oh, and because I am in the final weeks of school, it also means I am in full on job seeking mode. I think it is safe to say that I hate job searching. I have sent my resume to probably 2 dozen places and have only heard back from a few and neither sound like a good fit for me and our family.
It crushed me tonight telling them I will not be their teacher next year when they were excitedly talking about it. I quickly changed the subject since they wont understand, heck, I hardly understand most of what has happened, but it is what it is. Alright, I am done with that.
Here are my two little beauties, they sure can made any tough day a whole lot brighter with those smirks.

Puddle Jumping

Spring started warm and sunny and then reality set it with the chill and rain. The past two weeks have had more rainy days that sunny ones so we have been stuck inside the house far too much. One evening last week we had the girls put on their rain boots and jackets and let them splash around in the puddles after the rain stopped by Grandma and Grandpa's house. They loved every second of it.

New Bikes!

Last weekend we took Lillian and Claire to Target to pick out their very first bike helmets. I did not expect it to take nearly as long as it did for the girls to choose just the right helmet. I am pretty sure they tried on every single option available in their size before settling. A little later we headed to Grandma Pattie and Grandpa Jim's house where they had new bikes waiting for them. They were very excited since they had been asking constantly for "training wheels." They were a little slow to start and had trouble with the first push of the pedal to get going, but it didn't take long for them to become speed racers. By the next afternoon they were whizzing around the driveway. A few days later they looked like they have been riding for months. I am nervous to see them riding at the end of the summer. I don't think the training wheels will last long with these two daredevils.

Spring Break at the Zoo

Seeing that spring break was a month ago, I will keep this short. Josh, Lillian, Claire and myself met up with Kelly, Hudson and Finley at the Kansas City Zoo over spring break. The morning was cold and windy, but as the day progressed the sun came out and the temperature was near perfect. The first two hours we were at the zoo (in the cold) there was hardly anyone there and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was wonderful not having to fight the crowds and spend as much time as we wanted with our noses to the glass of the polar bear exhibit. After we enjoyed our picnic lunch the zoo was starting to fill up. We ended up spending close to five hours at the zoo that day and we had a fantastic day. I never get tired of zoo trips.

Finding My Passion

I have recently figured out that I need to find my passion in life besides my family. I need to find out what makes me happy. If I need to be away from my family for many hours each day working I want it to be doing something that I really, truly love.
I enjoy teaching and being with kids. I enjoy seeing those little people grow and develop new skills that I help them learn. I enjoy the nonstop activity during the day and hearing the laughs that only children will sound. While I enjoy my job, I have come to learn recently that it is no longer the place I am meant to be.
There is a lot of unknown and uncertainly out there waiting for our family and it scares me. I have no idea what will be happening in our lives in just two short months. I don't know how easy it will be for me to find a new job.  In a perfect world, I would be able to stay at home with Lillian and Claire and enjoy this last year before the start kindergarten. Sadly, that isn't possible right now. This change was extremely unexpected for us, but we are going to make the most of it and it will all work out in the end.
